LALMONIRHAT, Feb 12, 2026 (BSS) - At the Gopalrai Government Primary School polling station in Kaliganj upazila, 92-year-old Momena Begum demonstrated remarkable determination as she came out to vote today.

Despite relying on a stick in each hand to walk slowly, her unwavering commitment to democratic rights drew admiration from everyone at the center.

“My body is not moving, but I still came. Voting is our trust. I would not have peace if I did not vote for the people I like,” Momena Begum said, expressing her joy at participating in the election after many years.

Her daughter, Runa, who accompanied her, said, “We brought her because she wanted to vote. Although she cannot see well, her enthusiasm is inspiring everyone around her.”

Presiding Officer Mohammad Masud Mustazir said, “Despite her physical disabilities, we are proud of Momena Begum’s presence. She was allowed to vote on a priority basis.”

District Election Officer Md. Kamrul Islam assured that security measures and a fair voting environment have been maintained across all centers, with law enforcement agencies and officials present to prevent intimidation or obstruction of voters.

Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate HM Rakib Haider emphasized that authorities are enforcing a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against occupying polling stations, fake voting, or any threats to voters. “Law enforcement agencies are prepared to maintain overall control of the situation,” he said.
