CHATTOGRAM, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS) – BNP leader and candidate for the Chattogram-9 constituency, Abu Sufian, today demanded strict action against armed hoodlums and criminals involved in unlawful activities, calling for a conducive environment for a free, fair, and peaceful election scheduled for February 12.

Abu Sufian, former Chattogram South district president of BNP, alleged that certain quarters are conspiring and engaging in criminal activities to obstruct the much-anticipated parliamentary polls.

He made the remarks while speaking at a meeting at a city restaurant, aimed at exchanging views on the prevailing election situation and his working plan for the electorate.

Referring to the assassination of Inquilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi and the terrorist attack on the mass campaign of Chattogram city BNP convener and BNP-nominated candidate for Chattogram-8 (Chandgaon and Boalkhali) constituency, Alhaj Ershad Ullah, Abu Sufian observed, “These incidents of attack and killing clearly indicate that they are not isolated events but deliberate attempts to disrupt the peaceful environment ahead of the election.”

He criticized the previous government, saying, “The fascist regime of Sheikh Hasina destroyed the overall election system of the country, and people have lost faith in their constitutional right to vote freely and choose their leaders.”

Abu Sufian added, “We now see huge excitement and enthusiasm among the people ahead of the national polls after the fall of the previous regime. Voters expect to cast their votes in a secure and peaceful environment.”

He also stated that BNP is determined to extend full support to the Election Commission as well as the present interim government to ensure the upcoming election and referendum are held in a festive and transparent atmosphere.

The meeting was also attended by Chief Coordinator of the Chattogram-9 election managing committee and former city BNP general secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar, BNP central committee member Alhaj Shamsul Alam, joint secretary of the city unit Saiful Alam, and Ahmedul Alam Chowdhury Russel, among others.
