MANIKGANJ, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - Jute harvesting has begun in all seven upazilas of the district with a target of achieving bumper production.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said they had set a target of cultivating jute on 3,576 hectares of land, with a production target of 13,473 metric tonnes of jute fibre.
Of the total land, 3,755 hectares were allocated for Tosha variety, 798 hectares for local varieties, 18 hectares for Mesta, and 5 hectares for Kenaf varieties.
The DAE sources said farmers are expecting bumper production in the district as favourable weather conditions are prevailing across the district. They added that the jute cultivation target set for the current season has already been exceeded.
