People to choose right leadership for country's welfare: Abdul Jalil

RANGPUR, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS) - Director General (DG) of the Department of Mass 
Communication Md Abdul Jalil has said that people have the main 
responsibility as the real owners of the state to choose right leadership in 
the upcoming elections for the welfare of the country. 
 
He urged the voters to ensure empowerment by voting for a person who is 
qualified, humane and free from bribery, extortion and corruption in the 
public representative elections. 
 
"The key to the state will come into the hands of the people only through 
voting," he added.
 
He said this while addressing a courtyard meeting on the occasion of the 
referendum and the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Election, 2026 in Keshobpur 
village of Saddyapuskorini Union under Sadar upazila in Rangpur on Saturday 
as the chief guest. 
 
The Rangpur District Information Office organised this outdoor meeting in 
collaboration with the Department of Mass Communication. 
 
In his speech, the DG, shed light on the election and referendum procedures, 
reform process and the details of the implementation of the 'July Charter'. 
 
To make important reforms such as the formation of a non-discriminatory 
state, the formation of the upper and lower houses of parliament, increasing 
the number of women's seats, and preventing internet shutdowns a success, 
everyone's spontaneous participation is crucial in the upcoming February 12 
JS Polls and referendum, he continued. 
 
Regarding martyr Abu Sayeed, he said that the spark of the movement that 
spread throughout the country by the sacrifice of Abu Sayeed was the main 
goal of establishing a just society. 
 
"The real respect for the martyrs is to elect people with the mindset of 
being servants of the people," he said. 
 
In response to a question from journalists, the Director General said that a 
campaign is being conducted across the country through 'Uthan Baithak' and 
'Voting Vehicles' to encourage voters to come to the polls. 
 
He said that the special campaign of the Department of Mass Communication 
will continue till February 9 through the 'Vote Rickshaw' starting from 
January 20 at all upazila and union levels of the country. 
 
The programme was presided over by Rangpur District Information Office 
Director Dr Md Mofakkharul Iqbal.
 
Director of the Modern Information Complex Construction Project Md 
Moniruzzaman, Director (Technical) of the Department of Mass Communication 
Mir Md Aslam Uddin, Director (Administration) Syed A Mu'men, Deputy Director 
Nasima Khatun and officials of the district and regional information offices 
were present at the event. 
 
More than 500 men and women participated in the programme. 
 
Later, the Director General of the Department of Mass Communication Md Abdul 
Jalil participated in a 10-minute brief and voting discussion at Shaheed Abu 
Sayeed Gate of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur to motivate young and female 
voters to vote and participate in the 13th JS Election and the referendum.
