RANGPUR, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS) - Every citizen should spontaneously take Value Added Tax (VAT) payment as a responsibility to increase revenue and develop a culture of tax payment for building a prosperous Bangladesh.
High officials and experts said this today at a seminar organised by the Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate at the city's 'Agami Chashi Rangpur Limited' conference room marking the National VAT Day and VAT Week-2025.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) Member (Customs: Audit, Modernization and International Trade) Dr Md Al Amin Pramanik was present as the chief guest at the seminar.
Rangpur Divisional Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Arun Kumar Biswas presided over the event.
Additional Commissioner of Rangpur Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Md Khairul Kabir Mia delivered the welcome speech at the seminar.
Joint Commissioner of Rangpur Divisional Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Md Mohibbur Rahman Bhuyan presented the keynote address at the seminar.
Tax Commissioner for Taxes Zone-Rangpur Md Abu Said Sohel, President of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Emdadul Hossain and President of Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Golam Zakaria Pintu spoke as special guests.
NBR Member Dr Md Al Amin Pramanik in his speech said that revenue is one of the main driving forces of the country's development.
About 80 percent of the government's total revenue income comes from tax revenue and 20 percent comes from non-tax sources.
"The economic strength of a country largely depends on the efficiency of tax collection," he said, and called on every citizen to take VAT payment as a responsibility to enhance the government's revenue collection.
Dr Md Al Amin Pramanik told the tax officials that the role of taxpayers in building the country is immense.
"So, maintaining good relations between service providers and recipients is essential to increase revenue and develop a culture of tax payment," he said.
The businessmen have been playing an important role in the economic development of the country.
He urged the businessmen to deposit the VAT collected on behalf of the government to the government treasury on time.
In his closing speech, Arun Kumar Biswas said that every person in the country has been paying VAT and income tax to the government directly or indirectly.
He emphasized increasing public awareness to eliminate the tendency of VAT and income tax evasion.
He urged all concerned to pay VAT regularly for the sake of the country's greater development.
