NCP's Akhter collects nomination paper for Rangpur-4 seat

RANGPUR, Dec 23, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizens Party (NCP) member-secretary 
Akhter Hossaien has collected nomination paper for contesting in the upcoming 
13th Jatiya Sangsad election from Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha-Kawnia) constituency. 
 
Local leaders of the NCP collected nomination paper on behalf of Akhter 
Hossen from Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Ramiz Alam at the office of the 
District Returning Officer (RO) and Deputy Commissioner in the city on 
Tuesday afternoon. 
 
At that time, NCP's Rangpur district committee convener Md Al Mamun, 
metropolitan member-secretary Md Abdul Malek, district joint conveners Md 
Alamgir Nayan and Md Abu Raihan, Rangpur-4 constituency election steering 
committee chief coordinator Md Abdullah-Al Mamun and other leaders and 
activists were present. 
 
After collecting the nomination paper for Akhter Hossen, NCP's Rangpur 
district committee convener Md Al Mamun said that Akhter Hossen was the 
pioneer of the mass uprising and the first political prisoner. 
 
Akhter Hossen, a talented student of the Department of Law of Dhaka 
University (DU), has established himself as a national leader through his 
positive activities. He is a resident of Madhupur village of Kawnia upazila 
in Rangpur.
 
"We expect that he will make the desired development of Rangpur-4 
constituency if elected with the valuable votes of the voters here," he said. 
 
The NCP leaders claimed that Akhter Hossen, the hero of the mass uprising, 
has already made a place in the hearts of the people of Pirgachha and Kawnia 
upazilas due to his various positive activities. 
 
In 2018, Akhtaer Hossen went on a hunger strike alone to protest the leak of 
the entrance exam question papers, which made him nationally known. 
 
Earlier, Akhter Hossaen was the vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra Adhikar 
Parishad and the president and general secretary of the organization's DU 
unit. 
 
He was the founder of Ganotantrik Chhatra Shakti (Democratic Student Power). 
 
Akhter Hossen, a former social service secretary of Dhaka University Central 
Students Union (DUCSU) and one of the faces of the 2024 anti-fascist 
movement, did not give up even under police torture and oppression. He has 
made outstanding contributions to the July Movement. 
 
This is the first time young politician Akhter Hossen is contesting the 
Jatiya Sangsad elections from Rangpur-4 constituency, the 22nd constituency 
of the parliament. 
 
Although the party officially nominated him on December 10, the party 
convener Md Nahid Islam had earlier announced Akhter Hossen as the candidate 
for Rangpur-4 constituency during the July Padayatra in Rangpur on July 1 
this year. 
 
Out of the six constituencies in Rangpur district, three candidates are in 
discussion for Rangpur-4 constituency. The most discussions are going on 
regarding the candidates of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and NCP in this 
constituency. 
 
In Rangpur-4 constituency, there are 5,09, 906 voters, including five 
transgender voters, in the two upazilas.
