CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) - Shibganj Upazila Administration of the 
district today observed Begum Rokeya Day with a discussion meeting and an 
award-giving ceremony recognising five indomitable women for their 
significant contributions to local development.

The observance included a colorful rally and a discussion meeting, jointly 
organised by the Upazila Administration, the Women's Affairs Department, and 
the National Women's Organization. 

The rally began at the Upazila Parishad premises in the morning and concluded 
at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium after parading different roads in the 
municipal area.

The event saw participation from officials and employees of different 
government and private organisations, members of women's organisations, women 
entrepreneurs, students, and residents from diverse walks of life. 

The discussion meeting was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Ashiq 
Ahmed while Upazila Rural Development Officer Shahin Akhter moderated it.

The UNO highlighted Begum Rokeya's pioneering role in women's awakening, 
noting her significant contributions in combating discrimination and violence 
against women. 

Other speakers emphasized that eliminating oppression and discrimination 
against women requires concerted efforts from families, communities, and the 
state.

In recognition of their perseverance and achievements despite challenging 
circumstances, five women from the upazila were awarded the 'Indomitable 
Women's Honorary Crest and Certificate'.

The event underscored the community's commitment to empowering women and 
promoting gender equality in the region.
