KHULNA, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS) - The Khulna district administration on Tuesday honoured five "Best Indomitable Women," widely known as 'Joyeeta', in recognition of their outstanding achievements, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Begum Rokeya Day.
The award ceremony was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office in the afternoon, jointly organised by the district administration and the Department of Women Affairs.
The five women from Khulna district were honoured with crests and certificates for their resilience and contributions in various categories.
The recipients are Tarana Tabassum of Khalishpur for economic success, Dr. Mohsina Rahman of Koyra for achievements in education and employment, Feroza Khatun of Paikgacha as a successful mother, Mansi Mondal of Koyra for overcoming violence and rebuilding her life, and Tereza Gomez of Paikgacha for her outstanding contribution to social development.
Speaking at the event as chief guest, Deputy Commissioner A.S.M. Jamshed Khandaker said women in Bangladesh are no longer lagging behind in any sphere.
"There was a time when women were confined by household restrictions and male dominance, leaving their dreams unattained. Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain broke these barriers through her relentless efforts and became an inspiration for women's empowerment," he said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Bitan Kumar Mandal presided over the programme.
Among others, Daily Manab Zamin Bureau Chief Rashedul Islam and women's leader Advocate Shamima Sultana Shilu addressed the event.
Suraiya Siddika, Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs, delivered the welcome speech. Representatives of various women's organisations were also present.
Meanwhile, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) observed "Begum Rokeya Day 2025" by holding a doa and discussion at Rokeya Hall in the evening to recall her life, philosophy and contributions to women's emancipation.
KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md Maksud Helali addressed the programme as chief guest.
Govt. B.L. College Vice-Principal Prof. Dr. F.M.A. Razzak, Faculty of Science and Humanities Dean Prof. Dr. Md Abul Kalam Azad and Director (Student Welfare) Prof. Dr. B.M. Ikramul Haque attended as special guests. Rokeya Hall Provost Prof. Dr. Md Abdul Wakil presided over the event.
