Programmes to observe Victory Day in Khulna undertaken

KHULNA, Dec 7, 2025 (BSS) - The Khulna district administration has undertaken extensive programmes to observe Victory Day-2025 with due honour, in line with the national schedule.

The day's programmes will begin on 16 December with the hoisting of the national flag atop all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private buildings at sunrise.

Floral wreaths will be placed at the Gallamari Martyred Memorial, and a 31-gun salute will be fired at the Boyra Metropolitan Police Lines to mark the occasion.

At 8:30 am, the Divisional Commissioner will hoist the national flag at the Khulna District Stadium, followed by the national anthem, gathering of students, march-past, and display presentations. A three-day Victory Fair will also be held at the stadium.

A reception for freedom fighters, martyred families, and war-wounded veterans will be held at 11:30 am at the Khulna District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

The Navy's ships at BIWTA Rocket Ghat will remain open to the public from 9:00 am to sunset, while trains, steamers, launches, and ships will be decorated in observance of the day.

Sports events, including a T-20 cricket tournament, boat race, football, and ha-du-du competitions, along with cultural programmes involving school, college, and madrasa students, will take place across the district and upazila headquarters.

Liberation War-based documentary films will be screened at open venues including Shaheed Hadis Park, Shibbari intersection, Daulatpur Shaheed Minar, Rupsha intersection, Gallamari intersection, and Khalishpur intersection. Cinema halls at district and upazila levels will also screen such films free of charge for students.

Exhibitions of photographs on the Liberation War and the July mass uprising will be held at important locations in the city. 

Special prayers for the martyred and the well-being of freedom fighters will be offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas, and other places of worship.

Feasts will be arranged at hospitals, prisons, old-age homes, orphanages, daycare centres, children's homes, shelters for street children, centres for persons with disabilities, and vagrant homes. 

Major city roads and islands will be decorated with national flags, banners, and festoons, while children's parks and museums will remain open free of charge.

A friendly football match between KCC XI and District Administration XI will be held at 3:30 pm at the Khulna District Stadium. The Shishu Academy will organise children's art competitions and cultural events based on the Liberation War.

At the shrine of Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin at Purba Rupsa Ghat, a discussion on his heroism and contributions to the Liberation War will be organised. 
Prizes for essay, recitation, and art competitions will be distributed at 4:30 pm, accompanied by a cultural programme. Poets and writers will take part in a Liberation War-based recitation session.

Local newspapers will publish special supplements, literary pages, and commemorative issues, while Bangladesh Betar Khulna will broadcast Liberation War-based programmes throughout the month.

Important government, semi-government, autonomous, and private buildings will be illuminated on 15 and 16 December.
