PABNA, Dec 2, 2025 (BSS)- Detectives arrested Tushar Mondal, 21, a Jamaat activist, who recently went viral on Facebook for brandishing and firing weapons during a violent clash between BNP and Jamaat supporters in Ishwardi here.
"Tushar was arrested on Monday evening from the Dhanbandhi area of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila," said Detective Branch (DB) of Police in a press release today.
Law enforcers also recovered a pistol and two rounds of bullets, which he had allegedly used during the clash, it said.
On November 27, a confrontation erupted between supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP-backed parliamentary candidates at Chakgargari Alhaj More under Ishwardi Police Station during election campaigning.
During the incident, Md. Tushar Hossain, also known as Tushar Mondal, was seen publicly waging illegal firearms, causing widespread panic.
Following the clash, cases were filed by both groups with Ishwardi Police Station. Tushar was named as number six accused in one of the cases and had been on the run since the incident.
Tushar is the son of Taher Mondal from Velupara in Ishwardi Municipality.
Pabna DB OC Rashidul Islam said, "Tushar had been absconding since the incident. He was arrested on Monday evening. The pistol and bullets used in the clash have been recovered. After completing legal procedures, he was sent to jail."
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) ASM Abdur Noor confirmed that Tushar is a Jamaat worker and opened fire during the clash.
