CHUADANGA, Dec 2, 2025 (BSS) - A three-day agricultural technology and nutrition fair began today on the Muktamancha premises in the district, aiming to raise awareness on nutrition, promote safe agricultural technologies and encourage healthier dietary habits among the public.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossain formally inaugurated the fair, organised by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), at noon.
Following the inauguration, the Deputy Commissioner visited the 12 stalls set up at the venue, where he highlighted the nutritional value of various fruits and vegetables displayed at the fair.
He also discussed the adverse effects of excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, urging farmers and visitors to adopt safer and more sustainable agricultural practices.
A discussion meeting was later held at the Muktamancha, presided over by Masudur Rahman Sarkar, Deputy Director of the DAE. Additional Deputy Director Krishna Roy delivered the welcome speech.
Addressing the programme as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossain stressed the importance of proper food preparation to retain essential nutrients. "Most of the food we eat daily is home-cooked, yet many people do not consider how to preserve its nutritional value during cooking," he said.
He also noted that the common practice of polishing rice removes its nutrient-rich husk, resulting in the loss of 70 to 80 percent of its nutritional value. "This nutritional value must be ensured," he added.
Civil Surgeon Dr Hadi Ziauddin Ahmed, District Livestock Officer Dr Sahabuddin, and Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Aslam Hossain Ark also spoke on the occasion.
