MUNSHIGANJ, Dec 2, 2025 (BSS) - A joint operation team in a drive has seized four dredgers for illegally extracting sand in Chan Jhapta and Charkewar areas of the Meghna River in the district.

Later, a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Omar Faruq fined the owners of dredgers Taka 5 lakh.

The operation, carried out on Monday from 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm, was conducted by the Bangladesh Army's Gazaria Camp in cooperation with the Muktarpur Naval Police. 

During the drive, four dredgers used for unauthorized sand extraction were seized. Authorities also detained 11 workers involved in the operations.

They were later released into the custody of their respective owners after providing bonds, pledging not to engage in illegal sand extraction in the future.

Executive Magistrate Omar Faruq confirmed the details of the enforcement action.
