MYMENSINGH, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS) - Standing on the banks of the Brahmaputra River in the district, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has emerged as a beautiful university for its wide green nature, which is vastly created by gifted geographical advantage.
This institution, the first university of its kind in the country, is made even more unique by the Brahmaputra River flowing continuously right beside its campus.
The sources noted that no other university in the country has such an environment.
The university's Botanical Garden is situated directly on the riverbank. This garden serves as a vast reservoir of immense research potential, containing thousands of trees, vines, and rare species. Here, a unique harmony is created daily by the chirping of birds and the tune of the wind playing through the leaves. Nature seems to paint the mornings and evenings with its own colors in this setting.
The riverbank is also home to Udichi Ghat, a beloved spot that has captured the hearts of many. Every day, rows of boats wait at the ghat for visitors. On holidays, visitors, including students, researchers, families, and tourists from far and wide, take boat trips on the Brahmaputra. The sources describe the peace and cool breeze experienced mid-river as something that provides new strength to weary people.
Udichi Ghat is more than just a place of recreation; it is a vital source of livelihood for many local residents. The families of the boatmen are sustained by the activity on the river. Above the ghat, small stalls selling fuchka and chatpati line the area.
These stalls become a small world on the riverbank in the quiet evening under the light of lanterns, where university students and guests from various parts of the country gather for conversation and culinary enjoyment.
The Brahmaputra acts as a bridge, connecting the people of the two banks. Crossing the river via this ghat is a long-standing habit for the residents on the opposite bank. Every morning, these individuals use the ghat to bring fresh vegetables, fruits, milk, and other agricultural products to the mainland.
In the unused land bordering the river, small and marginal farmers are sowing new dreams. They utilize the fertile, silted soil of the river to cultivate seasonal vegetables and flower gardens. Through hard, strenuous effort, they produce various agricultural products.
The students of the Agricultural University also harbor aspirations to advance the nation in areas such as food security and agricultural technology in the future.
The Brahmaputra ghat is described as a unique meeting place of life, nature, labor, dreams, and emotion. For the students of BAU and the surrounding community, it is a repository of memories, and an unparalleled example for the people of Bangladesh. The campus and the river have merged with human life, thus becoming a source of living stories.
The Brahmaputra has flowed in an eternal current for centuries, and the BAU ghat, standing alongside this flow, continues to carry the hopes, laughter, and stories of the people. This combination of beauty, history, and life is highlighted as an invaluable asset to Bangladesh.
