DHAKA, Sept 2, 2026 (BSS) – The government has reconstituted the 13-member Board of Governors of the Islamic Foundation, with the Minister for Religious Affairs appointed as its chairman.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs issued a notification today, saying the new board was formed under Section 6(1) of the Islamic Foundation Act, 1974, to oversee the overall management of the foundation’s activities.
The board comprises six ex-officio members. Apart from the Religious Affairs Minister as chairman, the members include the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University and Chairman of the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board.
The Director General of the Islamic Foundation will serve as the member-secretary of the board.
Two government-nominated members of parliament have also been included. They are State Minister Mohammad Shamim Kaysar, MP from Gaibandha-4 constituency and Shahjahan Chowdhury, MP from Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency.
Five distinguished Islamic scholars and Muslim intellectuals have also been appointed as members of the board.
They are Mufti Monir Hossain Kasemi, Principal of Jamia Madania Baridhara, Dhaka; Maulana Syed Md. Mosaddeq Billah Al-Madani, Principal of Charmonai Ahsanabad Rashidia Kamil Madrasah, Barishal; Maulana Mahfuzul Haq, Secretary General of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh; Mufti Azharul Islam, Director General of Markazud Da'wah Al-Islamia, Jatrabari; and Mufti Sharif Ullah, Vice Principal of Noor-e-Madina Al-Arabia Madrasah.
