A transparent, accountable govt. now running the country: JS secretary

DHAKA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) – A transparent and accountable government is running the country now and representing the people of the country under the parliamentary government system.

Barrister Md Golam Sorwar, Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, said this while a three-member Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) representative led by its Secretary General Anda Filip met him at his Jatiya Sangsad office here on Monday.

The present parliament represented by both new and senior Members of Parliament (MPs), becomes much more effective and accountable, said Barrister Sorwar. 

During the meeting, the parliament secretary informed the IPU representative about the overall affairs of the parliament including parliament rules of procedure, committee system and legislative activities.

The thirteenth parliament is playing vital roles in strengthening the institutional foundation of the democracy in the country, he told the visiting IPU representative. 

The parliament secretary said the members of the parliament are considering the IPU secretary general’s visit in Bangladesh with due importance amid of the programmes marking the founding anniversary of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on September 1.

Expressing her satisfaction on the discussion made by the parliament secretary, the IPU secretary general Anda Filip said Bangladesh parliament is an active member of the IPU and Bangladesh has good relations for long time with the IPU. “IPU will work jointly with the Bangladesh parliament to make this relation more effective”, said the IPU secretary general.

Anda Filip also informed the parliament secretary about the IPU’s new strategy particularly the effective application of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) in achievement of science and technology for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for all by 2030.

The IPU official also requested the parliament secretary to ensure the participation of the parliament members at the 153rd Assembly of the IPU in Tanzania, on 5-9 October 2026. 
Senor parliament secretariat officials were also present during the meeting.
