DHAKA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) – A two-day training programme titled “Chemical Incident Preparedness for Hospitals (HOSPREP)” was held here to enhance the capacity of government hospitals to provide medical services during chemical accidents and disasters.

Under the supervision of the Bangladesh National Authority, Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC), Armed Forces Division, and managed by Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka, the training was held on August 30-31, said an ISPR release this afternoon. 

The programme was arranged in the first phase as part of efforts to strengthen the preparedness of doctors and nurses working at government hospitals located near chemical industrial areas to respond effectively to chemical incidents.

The prime objective of the training was to enhance the capabilities of hospitals involved in providing treatment to casualties of chemical disasters and accidents.

A total of 76 participants, including specialist doctors and nurses involved in hospital medical management and officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, took part in the training.

The training focused on emergency hospital management planning, decontamination procedures for casualties affected by chemical incidents, clinical management and measures to prevent secondary contamination among healthcare personnel involved in treating victims, the ISPR mentioned.

The programme also put emphasis the importance of coordinated preparedness and effective hospital response to ensure safe and timely treatment of chemical incidents victims.
