DHAKA, August 30, 2026 (BSS) — The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today arrested the prime suspect in the killing of a schoolteacher in a snatching incident in front of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, along with his accomplice and seized the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.

The arrested suspect was identified as Md. Mosharraf Hossain alias Panni alias Panni Gazi alias Para Panni, described by RAB-2 as a professional snatcher and a key member of a snatching gang.

His accomplice was also arrested, according to a press release.

According to RAB-2, its intelligence and technology-assisted investigation found that the two suspects were staying in the East Tejturi Bazar area under Tejgaon Police Station.

Acting on the information, an RAB-2 team conducted a special operation there and arrested Mosharraf and his associate within 24 hours of the incident. 

A Yamaha R15 motorcycle allegedly used in the killing was also seized.

The motorcycle owner, Rakib, told RAB during interrogation that the bike had been in Panni Gazi's possession on the day of the incident. 

The victim's husband, Abdul Matin, also confirmed that the motorcycle had been used during the attack.

The victim, Ranjila Parvin, 55, was the head-teacher of Bagbari Government Primary School in Gabtali upazila of Bogura.

According to the investigation, Ranjila Parvin and her husband were travelling by rickshaw from Gabtali to the capital's Farmgate area for medical treatment on Saturday morning. 

When their rickshaw reached in front of the southern plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban around 6:30am, two snatchers riding a motorcycle approached from behind and pulled her bag.

She fell from the rickshaw during the incident and sustained severe head injuries. She was taken to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Following the incident, the victim's husband filed a murder case against two unidentified snatchers with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. 

The case was filed on August 29 under Sections 394, 302 and 34 of the Penal Code.

RAB said preliminary investigation showed that Mosharraf was involved in snatching and other criminal activities in different parts of Dhaka, including Tejgaon and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. 

He has 13 cases filed against him with different police stations.

Police records also showed that the arrested suspect has three drug cases with Hatirjheel, Adabor and Kafrul police stations; six cases involving theft, attempted theft and intimidation with Bhatara, Mohammadpur, Kafrul, Badda and Shahjahanpur police stations; three cases involving theft and attempted theft with Adabor, Khilgaon and Kamrangirchar police stations; and one case for preparation to commit robbery with Chandpur Model Police Station.

RAB said legal proceedings against the arrested suspects are underway.
