CHATTOGRAM, Aug 29, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin today advised students to value hard work, remain honest with themselves and never turn to drugs after failure or frustration.

He gave the advice while addressing a reception for 96 meritorious students who secured GPA-5 in the SSC and equivalent examinations in Hathazari upazila.

Chattogram North District Chhatra Dal organized the 'Reception Ceremony-2026' at Hathazari Parbati Model Government High School around noon.

At the outset, the state minister said he attended the programme to encourage the younger generation, who would lead and build the country in the future.

Giving his first piece of advice, Mir Helal said students should not regard hard work as a substitute for talent. While talent is a gift, he said, hard work is within everyone's control and persistent effort can lead to outstanding results.

His second advice was to remain honest with oneself rather than trying to appear good before parents, teachers or others. He said self-honesty and genuine effort would help students succeed as they move to higher education and professional life.

On his third point, the state minister urged students never to turn to drugs because of frustration or failure. He said failure should be seen as an opportunity to try again, adding that persistence, not drugs, is the key to success.

He also warned that the government would take strict action against those involved in the drug trade, transportation and sale, particularly in Chattogram and Hathazari.

Hathazari Upazila Executive Officer Muhammad Abdullah Al Mubin, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Shahed Arman, Upazila BNP President Nur Mohammad, Municipality BNP Convenor Md Zakir Hossain and Chattogram North District Chhatra Dal President Takibul Hasan Chowdhury Taki, among others, attended the programme.

Later, the state minister distributed corrugated tin sheets to 15 flood-affected and destitute families through the upazila administration, with each family receiving one bundle.

He then inaugurated a solar-powered mini cold storage facility for farmers, established by the Hathazari Upazila Agriculture Office. High-yielding transplanted Aman paddy seedlings were also distributed free of cost among 120 farmers affected during the 2026 Aman season.

Earlier, around 11:00am, Mir Helal inaugurated 'Sebakunja', a facility at the Hathazari Upazila Land Office aimed at providing more people-friendly land services.
