SYLHET, Aug 29, 2026 (BSS) - Youth and Sports State Minister Md Aminul Haque today said construction of mini stadiums is underway in 201 upazilas across the country.
He said a stadium would be built in South Surma upazila of Sylhet, but instead of a mini stadium, the government has planned to construct a full-fledged stadium there.
The state minister made the remarks while talking to journalists after inspecting potential sites for the proposed stadium in South Surma.
He said three potential sites had been inspected and the most suitable location would be selected considering the convenience of local people. A Development Project Proposal (DPP) would then be prepared quickly, he added.
"The government is implementing programmes to construct mini stadiums in every upazila of the country. Work is already underway in 201 upazilas," Aminul Haque said.
He said some of the projects had already been completed, while construction was underway on others. Some projects were awaiting land acquisition, and work would begin once the acquisition process was completed.
Regarding the proposed South Surma stadium, he said the selected site would have to be easily accessible to spectators and provide adequate facilities for players.
The minister said the government wanted to ensure that people could conveniently attend sporting events and enjoy games from proper gallery facilities.
