JASHORE, Aug 29, 2026 (BSS) - Sewing machines were distributed among poor women from ethnic minority communities in Jashore, while bicycles, educational scholarships and sports equipment were provided to their children today.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit distributed the items as the chief guest at a programme organized by the Jashore Sadar Upazila administration at the upazila auditorium.
Four women from ethnic minority communities received sewing machines, six students received bicycles, and 38 students were awarded educational scholarships.
Of the scholarship recipients, 19 students from grades one to five received TK 3,000 each, 11 students from grades six to ten received TK 5,000 each, and eight students from grades eleven and twelve received TK 7,000 each.
In addition, sports equipment for badminton, table tennis, chess, cricket, handball, football and volleyball was distributed among 138 educational institutions and five clubs.
Zila Parishad administrator Delwar Hossain Khan Khokon attended the programme as special guest with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahriar Haque in the chair.
Earlier, the state minister distributed agricultural product processing equipment among women entrepreneurs under an initiative of the Agricultural Marketing Officer's Office.
He also distributed rice among underprivileged people at an event organized by the DU Forum Jashore.
