RANGPUR, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS) - Newly appointed Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Md Mahbubur Rashid has said that achieving public safety, service and trust is one of the main goals of RpMP. 
 
"To ensure peaceful law and order and public safety, information-based, planned and coordinated police activities should be conducted professionally, taking into account the actual problems and types of crimes in each area of the metropolis," he said. 
 
After taking charge as the new RpMP Commissioner on Thursday night, he said this at his first views exchange meeting with senior officers and unit in-charges of various units of RpMP at its conference room today (Friday).
 
RpMP Additional Police Commissioner Naresh Chakma, Additional Police Commissioners Toffael Ahmed, Maruf Ahmed and Sanatan Chakraborty and other senior police officers were present at the programme.
 
In the meeting, the Police Commissioner was informed about the overall law and order situation in the metropolis, types of crimes, drugs, theft, robbery, juvenile crime, traffic congestion and various issues related to public safety from the officers-in-charges concerned. 
 
He exchanged views with the concerned officials about the identified crime-prone areas of the metropolis, existing problems and causes of crime and expectations of the people. 
 
He outlined his plan to take effective measures on a priority basis by identifying these problems. 
 
He also said that the people should be listened to, the problems should be delved into and quick and effective measures should be taken in accordance with the law. 
 
At the same time, he emphasized the responsibility, professionalism, honesty and courteous behavior of the field-level police members with the people. 
 
In the exchange of views, various issues were discussed in detail with the aim of further improving the law and order situation in the metropolis, taking effective steps to control crime and ensuring public safety and police services.
