RANGPUR, Aug 7, 2026 (BSS) - Rangpur Sahitya-Sanskriti Parishad (RSSP) here today observed the 85th death anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore through a discussion, poetry recitation and cultural programme at the Rangpur Sahitya Parisat auditorium in the city.

The programme, presided over by RSSP President Dr Nasima Akter, featured discussions on Tagore's life, literary works and philosophy of humanity by noted writers, educationists and cultural personalities.

Professor Atahar Ali Khan presented a paper titled "Rabindranath Alone and Abandoned", while other speakers highlighted Tagore's enduring contribution to Bengali literature, culture and humanism.

Later, the speakers discussed the life, philosophy of humanity, literary works, poems, songs, novels, social welfare and cultural activities of Rabindranath Tagore, who took Bengali literature and culture to a new height on the world stage. 

Speaking at the closing session, Dr Nasima Akter urged poets, writers, researchers and cultural activists to uphold Tagore's ideals to further enrich Bengali literature and help build a peaceful, non-communal and progressive society.
