DHAKA, March 31, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today launched a special cleanliness drive to reduce waterlogging ahead of the upcoming monsoon.
DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam inaugurated the programme by starting box culvert cleaning work at Segunbagicha.
He said DSCC has taken various measures to ease public suffering caused by waterlogging during the rainy season. As part of the plan, cleaning of four box culverts has begun, with efforts to complete the work within one month to ensure smooth water flow.
The corporation has identified 33 waterlogging hotspots and formed emergency response teams for rapid action. Six portable pumps have been kept ready, while two permanent pump stations have been made fully operational.
Plans have also been approved to construct two new drainage outlets at New Market and Swarighat to improve water discharge capacity.
In addition, steps have been taken to update the drainage master plan and restore four canals - Jirani, Shyampur, Kalunagar and Manda.
The DSCC administrator urged citizens not to dump waste into drains, saying public awareness and cooperation are essential to address waterlogging and improve waste management.
Officials said cleaning the 2.85-kilometre culvert from Shilpakala Academy to TT Para Pump Station will benefit around one million residents in surrounding areas.
