DHAKA, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is drawing up a coordinated traffic management strategy to minimise congestion and disruption from major development projects underway or set to begin across the capital.

As part of the initiative, the DMP this afternoon held a preparatory meeting with representatives of relevant agencies and stakeholders at its headquarters, chaired by Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman, said a DMP press release.

The meeting assessed the likely impact of major development works on traffic flow and road discipline and discussed alternative traffic arrangements and contingency measures to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and commuters during project implementation.

The initiative comes ahead of a meeting to be chaired by the Home Minister, where policy-level strategies are expected to be discussed to address traffic challenges arising from major development projects and strengthen coordination among implementing agencies.

The move follows a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on August 29 on easing traffic congestion and modernising traffic management in Dhaka.

The meeting stressed stronger coordination among government agencies, departments and other stakeholders involved in major ongoing and short-term development projects.

Senior DMP officials and representatives of agencies involved in Dhaka's development projects attended today's meeting.
