DHAKA, March 30, 2026 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan today said mosquito control efforts in the capital must be further strengthened.
The administrator made the remarks while inaugurating a two-day training programme on Integrated Vector Management (IVM) and Basic Pest Control Techniques, organised by the DNCC Health Department at Nagar Bhaban here.
Instructing mosquito control workers to carry out their duties with utmost sincerity and commitment, Shafiqul said greater emphasis should be placed on practical knowledge rather than theoretical learning.
Noting that city dwellers are suffering due to mosquito infestation, he said, “We must remain strongly committed and continue our best efforts. Even if we are not 100 percent successful, sincere efforts will help us achieve the desired goal.”
Highlighting that waste management is closely linked to mosquito control activities, he said DNCC is also implementing waste management programmes vigorously. If all concerned properly fulfil their respective responsibilities, it will be possible to provide some relief to city residents, he added.
Entomologist Dr Kabirul Bashar, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman and public health expert Dr Benazir Ahmed, among others, were present at the event, with DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury in the chair.
A total of 82 participants, including DNCC health officers and mosquito control supervisors from different wards, are taking part in the training programme.
