KHULNA, March 21 (BSS) – The holy Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated in Khulna today (Saturday) with due solemnity, religious fervour and enthusiasm.
Marking the occasion, national flags were hoisted atop government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings at sunrise.
Major roads and traffic islands in the city were decorated with banners inscribed with Eid greetings in Bangla and Arabic.
The main Eid congregation was held at 8.00 am at Khulna Town Jame Mosque, where Khatib Maulana Mohammad Saleh led the prayers.
Additional congregations were held at the same venue at 9.00 am and 10.00 am to accommodate the large number of devotees.
Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju, Divisional Commissioner Md. Mokhtar Ahmed, KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner ASM Jamshad Khondoker, along with senior government officials, political leaders and a large number of devotees joined the main congregation.
A special munajat was offered seeking peace, progress and prosperity of the country, the Nation and the Muslim Ummah. Worshippers later exchanged Eid greetings with each other.
Eid congregations were also held at Khulna Alia Madrasa Model Mosque and Boyra Model Mosque at 8.30 am, while Khulishpur Jame Mosque and Basupara Islamabad Jame Mosque hosted prayers at 8.00 am.
In addition, separate congregations were arranged in all 31 wards of the Khulna City Corporation at scheduled times.
Besides, Eid prayers were offered at different mosques and venues across the city, including Baitun Noor Jame Mosque, Dakbangla Jame Mosque, KUET Central Mosque, Khulna University Mosque, Sonadanga Hafiznagar Mosque, PTI Mosque and other important places.
On the occasion, special meals were served at government hospitals, jails, children homes, physically challenged centres and shelters for the underprivileged.
Bangladesh Betar, Khulna centre, broadcast special programmes, while local newspapers published special Eid editions. Similar programmes were also observed across all Khulna upazilas.
Meanwhile, Khulna University and the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology arranged the Eid congregation at their own jame mosques at 7.30 am accordingly.
