RANGPUR, March 21, 2026 (BSS) - The district's main Eid congregation was held at 8:30 am today at the District Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center with great enthusiasm and religious solemnity amidst adverse weather conditions.
Earlier, the authorities concerned had announced that the main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation would be held at the Rangpur Collectorate Eidgah Maidan at 8:30 am today if the weather was normal.
However, due to overnight rain, the weather and field conditions at the Rangpur Collectorate Eidgah Maidan and other Eidgahs and open spaces in the city became unfavorable for organizing the Eid congregation.
Khatib of the historic Keramotia Jame Mosque and prominent Islamic thinker Alhaj Hafiz Quari Moulana Md Bayezid Hussaine conducted the main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at the District Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center, delivered sermon and led special munajats.
After the prayers and sermons, special munajats were offered seeking the welfare, peace and prosperity of the country, nation and the Muslim Ummah of the world.
At this time, the devotees prayed to Allah Almighty with tearful eyes and religious emotion for the welfare of the Muslim Ummah, including Gaza in Palestine, and Iran for the end of all kinds of oppression against Muslims around the world.
Before the prayers began, Member of Parliament from Rangpur-3 (City and Sadar) constituency Mahbubar Rahman Bell and Rangpur City Corporation Administrator and Metropolitan BNP Member-secretary Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Don addressed the devotees, wishing them a happy Eid.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan presided over the brief function.
High officials of the divisional and district administrations, Rangpur Judgeship, officials, dignitaries, leaders of BNP and Jamaat-E-Islami and different other political parties and thousands of Muslim devotees participated in the main congregation.
Later, like the first congregation, the second Eid congregation was also held at the District Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center at 9:30 am with the participation of hundreds of worshippers amid tight security arrangements.
In addition, Eid-ul-Fitr congregations were held at the Rangpur Police Lines Mosque, Shapla Chattar Ashrafia Jame Mosque, Munshipara Jame Mosque and Nasirabad Ekramia Jam-e-Mosque, historical Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque adjacent to Hazrat Moulana Keramat Ali (RA) Shrine between 8 am-9:30 am in the city.
Eid-ul-Fitr congregations were also held at Rangpur Medical College Central Jam-e-Mosque, Burirhat Central Jam-e-Mosque, Central Bus Terminal Jam-e Mosque and other mosques between 8:30 am and 9:30 am in Rangpur city.
Outside the city, bigger Eid jamats were held between 8:30 am and 10 am at the major mosques and Eidgah grounds in Mithapukur, Badarganj, Pirgachha, Kawnia, Taraganj, Pirganj and Gangachara upazilas where the weather remained cooperatively better.
The national flag was hoisted atop all government and private buildings and improved diets were served to inmates of the hospitals, orphanages, jail, vagrant centres and Shishu Paribars of the district to share the joy of Eid.
