Mobile courts cracking down on transport operators overcharging passengers during Eid travel

DHAKA, March 19, 2026(BSS) - Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, mobile courts have been intensified across the country including the capital to prevent overcharging of fares and harassment of homebound passengers by transport operators. 

Several transport operators have been fined and the excess fares collected by transport operators have been returned to the passengers, official sources said here today.

In city’s Fulbaria, Gulistan and Jatrabari areas, mobile courts filed two cases and fined transport operators a total of Taka 5,000.

 Ilish Paribahan and Jamuna Highway Line were penalized for charging the extra fares.

At Shyamoli area, four transport operators were fined Taka 13,000 for overcharging passengers.

 Similarly, in Sayedabad, three operators were fined Taka 11,000 and the extra fares collected by transport operators were refunded to passengers.

In Abdullahpur, Uttara, two transport counters were fined Taka 10,000 for not displaying fare charts and charging extra fares.

 However, authorities reported no traffic congestion in the area and passenger pressure has started to ease.

Separate drives were carried out at Kalyanpur, Gabtoli, Hemayetpur and Savar areas and realized fines totaling Taka 7,000. Earlier, fines amounting to Taka 9,000 had been imposed in the same areas.

Outside the capital, the mobile courts realized Taka 7,000 in Chattogram’s Oxygen intersection and Taka 5,000 in Elenga, Tangail. In Barishal, one case was filed and Taka 3,000 was fined.

In Khulna’s Rupsha Toll Plaza area, fines totaling Taka 6,000 were imposed in three separate cases. Traffic movement in the area remained normal.

Officials said such drives will continue to ensure smooth Eid travel and prevent irregularities, including fare manipulation. Overall, traffic movement across the country has remained normal.
