BARISHAL, March 19, 2026 (BSS) - Eid gifts sent by Prime Minister Tarique
Rahman were distributed among families of individuals who were killed and
disappeared during the fascist regime.
The distribution took place around 12:00 noon at the Barishal Metropolitan
BNP Office under the supervision of local leaders of the Bangladesh
Nationalist Party (BNP).
According to party sources, several leaders and activists who were injured on
August 5 in Barishal were among the recipients.
Gifts were handed over to District Jubo Dal Organising Secretary Md. Rakibul
Islam Ripon, District Chhatra Dal Vice President Md. Shahidul Islam Sohel,
and Metropolitan Bastuhara Dal President Md. Rafiqul Islam.
BNP leaders said the initiative aimed to support affected families and boost
morale among grassroots activists. Many recipients expressed gratitude upon
receiving the gifts.
Speaking at the event, Barisal Metropolitan BNP Member Secretary Zia Uddin
Sikder said that the party leadership had taken the initiative to stand
beside families who suffered during political violence. Such efforts would
further encourage local leaders and activists, he added.
The event was presided over by Barishal Metropolitan BNP Convener
Moniruzzaman Khan Faruk, with other leaders and activists of the metropolitan
unit also in attendance.
