MUNSHIGANJ, March 17, 2026 (BSS) - Ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, passengers from 29 districts of the southern region are returning home to celebrate the festival with their families through the Padma Bridge on the Dhaka–Mawa highway in a congestion-free environment.

Since morning today, there has been no excessive traffic pressure. From midnight to 2pm today—a span of 14 hours—a total of 24,179 vehicles, including motorcycles, crossed through the Mawa and Jajira ends. Toll collection during this period amounted to Taka 2 crore 55 lakh 63 thousand 700.

On the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway, motorcycles and passenger buses are crossing the Padma Bridge quickly after paying tolls at the toll plaza.

Executive Engineer Abu Sayeed of the Padma Bridge site office told BSS that although there was some pressure in the morning due to the first day of Eid holiday, traffic later became normal.

Necessary measures are in place to manage increased vehicle pressure if it occurs, he said.

To facilitate easier toll payments during Eid journey, a total of 10 booths (including 2 additional ones) have been opened for heavy vehicles at the northern end, and 3 lanes (including 2 additional ones) have been opened for motorcycles, he said.
