SAVAR, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS)- National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Md Nahid Islam today said the security of the July fighters cannot be ensured by relying on the government or police, stressing that people must ensure their own safety through mobilizing public strength.

“Our security must be ensured by ourselves. For that, we need organisation among the people. We will once again call upon the people to come forward. After August 5, we ensured our own security when there were no government and no police. Bangladesh is moving towards a similar situation,” he said.

Nahid was speaking to reporters after paying tribute to the martyrs of independence by placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar on the occasion of the Great Victory Day.

He said although Bangladesh achieved an independent territory, the people had been repeatedly deceived over the past 54 years.

“We failed to build the country we had envisioned with the promise of the Liberation War. Equality, human dignity and social justice were not established; instead, fascism was entrenched,” he added.

The NCP convener said the mass uprising and revolution of 2024 were organised against fascism. “We believe that from 1947 to 1971 and from 1971 to 2024, the historical struggles waged by the people of this land are part of a continuous fight. We are the inheritors of that struggle, and by upholding it we want to build the Bangladesh of the future,” he said.

Expressing optimism about the upcoming elections, Nahid said a strong public wave in favour of reforms would be created through a referendum-like mandate.

He said the MP candidates of NCP will go door to door with the ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol seeking a ‘Yes’ vote for reforms. We will move Bangladesh forward on the path of reform and will never take the country back to the pre–August 5 situation,” he said.

He also alleged that ousted forces were trying to destabilize the country and sabotage the election. “That is why we must ensure our own security. Safety cannot be guaranteed by relying on the government alone,” he said.

Nahid said NCP candidates would approach people to build up a mass upsurge in favour of reforms. He called upon youths to remain united with a commitment to future-oriented politics.

NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Organiser for the northern region Sarjis Alam, Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari and other party leaders and activists were present at that time.
