KHULNA, Dec 4, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has named Amir Ezaz Khan as its candidate for the Khulna-1 (Dakope-Batiaghata) constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Ezaz earlier contested national elections from the same seat in 2001, 2008 and 2018. Local BNP leaders said his selection was widely anticipated, noting that grassroots activists had long favoured his candidacy.
A former general secretary and later convener of the district BNP, he is known in the area for his clean image and long record of organisational work.
Following the announcement, jubilant BNP activists brought out processions, distributed sweets and shared congratulatory messages on social media. Leaders at the grassroots said the decision is expected to further consolidate the party's strength in the constituency.
Local BNP activists said they have already stepped up election preparations, expressing confidence that the party will gain renewed momentum under Ezaz's leadership.
Speaking to reporters, Amir Ezaz Khan said he has served the people of Batiaghata for many years, beginning with his role in the upazila committee. Although he lost the 2001 election, he said he had received notable public support. He added that in both 2008 and 2018, after receiving the BNP nomination, he again secured a significant number of votes.
Ezaz expressed optimism that a free and fair election this time would allow him to win and fulfil the expectations of voters in Khulna-1.
