CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, July 12, 2026 (BSS) - Chittagong University (CU) is set to hold its 36th Senate meeting on August 8, ending a three-year gap since the university's last annual Senate session.
CU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan confirmed the information to BSS today.
The Senate is expected to consider and approve the estimated revenue budget of Tk 503.47 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year and the revised revenue budget of Tk 489.99 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The meeting will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor.
The university last held a Senate meeting on July 30, 2023. Although the Chittagong University Act, 1973 requires the Senate to meet at least once every year, no Senate meeting was held over the following three years.
Under the Act, the Senate is responsible for approving the university's annual report, annual accounts and financial estimates, amending and ratifying statutes on the recommendations of the Syndicate, and performing other functions assigned under the law.
As no Senate meeting has been held over the past three years, approval of several statutory matters has remained pending.

These include the Vice-Chancellor, two Pro-Vice-Chancellors, government nominees, members of parliament nominated by the Speaker, educationists nominated by the Chancellor, representatives of research bodies, principals and teachers of affiliated and constituent colleges, the chairman of the Comilla Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, elected registered graduates, elected university teachers and student representatives.
