RANGPUR, Dec 12, 2022 (BSS) - Local administrations and other organisations have taken programs to observe the Martyred Intellectuals' Day -2022 by paying rich tribute to martyred intellectuals for their supreme sacrifice just ahead of the ultimate victory in 1971.
The divisional, district and police administrations, Rangpur Metropolitan Police, political parties, sociocultural organisations and educational institutions have taken daylong programs to observe the day in a befitting manner on Wednesday (December 14) next.
The district and city units of Awami League, Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee, Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote, Shilpokola Academy, Begum Rokeya University, Carmichael College and other educational institutions have also taken programs marking the day.
The observance will begin with placing wreaths at the 'Shahid Muktijoddha Smritistambha', hoisting of black flags and national flag at half-mast atop all public and private buildings followed by other programs since the morning in the city.
High officials of the divisional and district level civil and police administrations, freedom fighters, leaders of different political parties, sociocultural, professional and other organisations will place wreaths there.
The district administration will organize a discussion at the Shilpokola Academy auditorium and competitions on essay writing and drawing for children and distribute prizes, crests and certificates marking the Martyred Intellectuals' Day.
The programs also include wearing of black badges, placing wreaths at mass graves, special munajats at mosques, temples, churches and other places of religious worship seeking divine blessings for departed souls of the martyred intellectuals.
Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar will air special programs and local dailies publish supplementary issues containing special articles highlighting the significance of the day.
The district and city units of Awami League and its associate bodies will observe the day beginning with placing wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman followed by daylong programs.
Leaders of the district and City units of Awami League and its associate bodies will hoist black flag and national flag at half-mast at their respective offices in the city in the morning.
Later, leaders of the district and city units of Awami League and associate bodies will place wreaths at 'Shahid Muktijoddha Smritistambha' at Surobhi Uddyan and Bangabandhu's Mural at Bangabandhu Square in the city.
The district and city units of Awami League and associate bodies will take part in two separate discussions to be arranged at their respective offices.
Besides, Rangpur City Corporation, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Sector Commanders Forum, JASOD, BSD, CPB, Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi and many other organisations and institutions will observe the day.
