Birshreshtha Ruhul Amin, Bir Bikram Mohibullah remembered

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2022 (BSS) - The 51st death anniversary of Birshreshtha Ruhul 
Amin, one of the seven Liberation War heroes, and Bir Bikram Mohibullah was 
observed at Bangladesh Navy headquarters in Khulna today.

On this day in 1971, just six days ahead of the nation's final victory, 
Engine Room Artificer of Bangladesh Naval Ship (BNS) Palash Ruhul Amin 
embraced martyrdom at the bank of River Rupsha in Khulna where he had reached 
after swimming around quarter kilometer of the river from the ship.

Earlier, BNS Palash captured Mongla Port from the Pakistani occupation
forces after a fierce gun battle. The Naval Ship Palash was advancing towards 
Khulna to conquer the industrial city from the Pakistani forces.

As the ship reached near the Shipyard area, a fighter plane hurled bomb
targeting the BNS Palash. 

Mohibullah, a staff of the ship killed on the spot and the rest naval staff 
jumped into the river. Later, he was awarded Bir Bikram padak by the 
government for his supreme sacrifice in the Liberation War.

Ruhul Amin managed to escape the bomb attack but he was killed by the
Razakar Bahini who assisted the Pakistani Army during the Liberation 
War.

On the next day, Ruhul Amin along with Mohibullah was buried at Bagmara 
village under East Rupsha area in the district.

Khulna Development Authority (KDA) has built a memorial complex surrounding 
their graveyard in 1997. After its completion, Bangladesh Navy supervised it 
while KDA handed over the memorial complex to them.

Bangladesh Navy in Khulna headquarters chalked out different programmes to 
observe the day in befitting manner, said a press release here today.

The programmes included placing flower wreath at their graveyard, discussion, 
doa mahfil and recitation from the Holy Quran.

On the occasion, Regional Commander of Khulna Naval Region Rear Admiral 
Mohammad Anwar Hossain placed wreath and formed guard of honor at the 
martyrs' shrine. 

Later, special prayers were offered at all the mosques of the naval area 
after Zuhr prayers for the salvation of the brave freedom fighter's souls who 
were martyred in the great Liberation War. 

Senior officers and a significant number of naval officers and sailors were 
present during the prayers.
