New curriculum for drivers to stop sexual harassment

DHAKA, Dec 5, 2022 (BSS) - Road Transport and Highways Division (RTHD) Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri today said new curriculum is being formulated for bus drivers to make them aware of some manners and code of conduct in a bid to bring an end to sexual harassment in the public transports.

 "Along with the basic education in driving, in the new curriculum, etiquette, curtsey, manners and code of conduct will also be included to make the drivers aware of the issues," said ABM Amin Ullah Nuri.

 The secretary was addressing a seminar on 'We want women-friendly and women harassment free public sphere and public transport' at Anowara Begum-Munira Khan Conference room of Sufia Kamal Bhaban in the capital.

Amin Ullah said there will have necessary arrangements in each bus stoppage to provide immediate support to the victims of any kind of harassment in the bus.

 In this regard, stickers will be placed in each bus very soon to make the women passengers, drivers and helpers aware of the activities, he added.

Stickers will contain the directives following which victims will be able to call 999 and get a supporting team stand by in the next station to help him/her, he further said.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad president Dr Fauzia Moslem, Road Safety Movement president Ilias Kanchan, Deputy attorney general Amit Das Gupta, BRTA Director (Operation) Md Lokman Hossen and Shyamoli Paribahan Managing Director Ganesh Chandra Ghosh, among others, were present at the function.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Dhaka city president Mahatabun Nesar presided over the event.
