101 yaba traders sentenced to 1.5-yr jail in Cox's Bazar

COX'S BAZAR, Nov 23, 2022 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced 101 yaba traders to one and a half years jail in a drug case. 

Public Prosecutor Faridul Alam said, on February 16 in 2019, the yaba peddlers surrendered to police in Tecknaf in presence of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal with yaba, arms and ammunition on Tecknaf Pilot High School field. 

Following their surrender, police filed drug and arms cases against them with Tecknaf Model Thana. On January 20 in 2020, the Investigative Officer pressed the charge sheet. 

Faridul Islam also said all the drug traders were freed in the verdict of arms case. 

Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail handed down the verdict to the yaba peddlers.

The court also fined Taka 20,000 to each of them.
