Early diagnosis of fistula patients stressed to end the disease

DINAJPUR, Nov 23, 2022 (BSS) - Experts at a daylong training program have stressed on early diagnosis of obstetric fistula patients to bring them under cost-free treatment facilities on time to end the disease by 2030.  
 
They expressed the view at the training on ‘Fistula case diagnosis, data management and reporting’ held at LAMB Training Center in Parbatipur upazila town of the district on Tuesday.
 
Lutheran Aid to Medicine in Bangladesh (LAMB) organised the event under the UNFPA Bangladesh funded Elimination of Genital Fistula by Capturing, Treating, Rehabilitating and Reintegrating in Bangladesh (FRRei) project.
 
The Directorate General of Health Services and UNFPA Bangladesh extended technical support in arranging the event.
 
Some 24 senior staff nurses from two medical college hospitals and district level hospitals of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions participated the training program.
 
Acting Director of Community Health Development Program (CHDP) of LAMB Utpal Minj inaugurated the event. Where the Project Manager of LAMB FRRei project Mahtab Liton delivered a welcome speech and narrated an overview of the project activities.
 
Technical Officer of UNFPA Bangladesh Dr. Animesh Biswas virtually explained the current situation of female Genital Fistula and sufferings and patients in the project area.
 
He described the importance of nurses in primary diagnosis of Fistula and focused on proper documentation.
 
Senior Registrar (Gynecology and Obstetric) at LAMB Hospital Dr. Hafiza and Dr. Bea of Switzerland Gynecology and Obstetric Consultant and Fistula Surgeon at LAMB Hospital facilitated different sessions in the training program.
 
Dr. Hafiza taught the participating senior nurses how to diagnose fistula disease by proper history analyses and physical examination of the patients.
 
Dr. Bea taught how to deal with patients and gather practical knowledge directly from patients who were admitted in hospitals and bring them under proper treatments.
 
Deputy Project Manager of the FRRei project Dr. Tahmina Khatun Soniya discussed the data documentation process of fistula patients.
 
Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer (UHFPO) Dr. Md. Araz Ullah, Biral UHFPO Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mokaddes and Medical Officer of Panchagarh Civil Surgeon Office Dr. S M Sharif Afzal participated in the open discussion.
 
They discussed the sufferings of genital fistula patients and appreciated the LAMB FRRei project activities for taking necessary steps to eliminate fistula aiming at building a fistula-free Bangladesh by 2030 next.
