ICPC chief appreciates Bangladesh for arranging ICPC World Finals

DHAKA, Nov 10, 2022 (BSS) - President of the ICPC Foundation and ICPC Executive Director Dr William B Poucher appreciated the co-hosts ICT Division, Bangladesh Computer Council and the University of Asia Pacific for befitting arrangement of the ICPC World Finals in Dhaka.

At the press briefing held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), he also presented highlights of the ongoing contest, said a press release.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Asia Pacific and Director, ICPC World Finals Dhaka Prof Dr Qumrul Ahsan; ICPC Deputy Executive Director and ICPC Director of World Finals Contests Dr Michael J Donahoo; Additional Secretary of ICT Division Mohammad Navid Shafiullah; and Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council Ranajit Kumar were present.

Vicky Zhang, Vice-President of Corporate Communications of Huawei, and Andrei Ivanov, Senior Vice President of Investments, Vice-President of Research and Education at JetBrains, were also present.

Dr Bill Poucher thanked the Bangladesh government specially the ICT Division and Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) for extending support to the University of Asia Pacific for the successful staging of competition.

He said: "I am delighted to be here. We have to be proactive to do better."

In his speech, Prof Qumrul Ahsan said by organising this great programming contest, the University of Asia Pacific would be immensely benefitted to take challenges on how to learn, experiment and excel in the goals and motto of such a mega competition."

Highlighting the benefit of hosting the ICPC World Finals in Dhaka, Additional Secretary of ICT Division Mohammad Navid Shafiullah said: "To develop a human resource pool for the Digital World, we need to inculcate a problem-solving culture for the younger generation".

BCC Executive Director Ranajit Kumar said: "What you have seen here now in this event, the wonderful environment of the contest venue is the finished product of a lot of hard work that was first initiated back in 2017."

A total of 137 teams from universities around the world are competing for the championship today at the ICCB Hall 4. More than 1,000 people are in Dhaka to celebrate the competition, coming from 70 countries.

The 45th edition of the ICPC World Finals, known as the programming world cup, got underway with the Opening Ceremony at ICCB Hall-1 on November 8, 2022.

The 45th edition of the ICPC World Finals is led by the ICT Division of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh where the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) of the ICT Division is acting as the executing agency and the UAP is the host of this contest.
