Freedom fighters sacrificed lives for independent Bangladesh: BRUR VC


RANGPUR, Nov 9, 2022 (BSS) - Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr. Md. Hasibur Rashid today said the heroic freedom fighters sacrificed their lives for establishing independent Bangladesh for the new generations.
 
"In return for their supreme sacrifices, we got an independent country in 1971," he said, adding that young generations should be told the correct history of the War of Liberation and Bangladesh should move forward with the spirit of the War of Liberation.
 
The vice-chancellor said this after paying rich tribute to martyred heroic freedom fighter Khandker Mukhtar Elahi and all other martyrs of 1971 at Aiirkhamar mass grave in Sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat district.
 
Officials of Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Hall of BRUR also paid tribute by placing wreaths there.
 
After placing a wreath at the monument erected at Aiirkhamar mass grave, the vice-chancellor with other dignitaries observed a one-minute silence in memory of the heroic martyrs and offered special munajats seeking divine blessings for the departed souls of all martyrs.
 
Former Professor of Bloomsburg University in the United States Dr. K. Mushtaq Elahi, renowned educationist Professor Dr. K. Moudood Elahi, Director (In-charge) of the Office of the Student Affairs of BRUR Md. Nuruzzaman Khan, Student Advisor of BRUR Md Nuruzzaman Khan, its Director of the Office of External Affairs Md. Sabbir Ahmed Chowdhury, General Secretary of the teachers' association Syed Anwarul Azim, Provost of Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Hall Dr. Md. Rashidul Islam, Head of the Department of Public Administration Md. Asaduzzaman Mondal Asad, Deputy Director of the Public Relations, Information and Publication Division Mohammad Ali, among others, were present.
