DHAKA, Nov 8, 2022 (BSS) - Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Masood Bin Momen has suggested a strong and long-term integrated effort to demand international and UN recognition of the genocide committed by the Pakistan Army in Bangladesh in 1971.
He gave this suggestion in a meeting with the leaders of Amra Ekatar, an organization flowing in the spirit of liberation war. The meeting was held today at his office.
Aamra Ekattor Chairperson Bir Muktijoddha Mahbub Zaman, Chief Coordinator Bir Muktijoddha and writer Hilal Faizi, central organizer Bir Muktijoddha Mrinal Sarkar and special correspondent of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Mahfuza Jasmine were present at the meeting.
The Foreign Secretary said that there are many obstacles in the way of UN recognition of the Bangladesh Genocide that took place in 1971.
"Long-term and integrated planning and initiatives should be taken to remove these obstacles," he said and put emphasis on the involvement of social organizations in addition to the government initiative in realizing this demand.
Masud bin Momen said that increasing international communication, taking regular programs of Bangladeshi organizations in diaspora, preparing and promoting research papers on Bangladesh genocide in various universities of the country and abroad, taking regular initiatives to create public opinion in national and international arena and strong role of media are very important in realizing this demand.
Mahbub Zaman, Chairperson of Aamra Ekattor, outlined the various programs of the organization to demand the recognition of the Ekattor Genocide.
Apart from various organizational activities, he expressed the hope that his organisation will play a supporting role in the related activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mahbub Zaman on behalf of Aamra Ekattor congratulated and thanked the foreign secretary for being elected as a member of Bangladesh Human Rights Council in the 51st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. After the discussion, he handed over the letter of congratulations to the foreign secretary.
