DHAKA, Oct 18, 2022 (BSS) - State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak today said that the reason behind killing Sheikh Russel was to wipe out political successors of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman forever.

"They (the killers) wanted to wipe out Bangabandhu's political successors forever by killing Sheikh Russel. That's why we say that this brutal killing of Sheikh Russel is the biggest black chapter in the path of justice, peace and progress," he said.

The state minister said this while addressing a national seminar organized by the ICT Division at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the city, marking the Sheikh Russel Day 2022.

Senior Secretary of the ICT Division NM Zeaul Alam delivered the welcome address and chaired the seminar titled 'the Brutal Murder of Sheikh Russel: A Dark Chapter on the Road to Justice, Peace and Progress', said a press release.

Palak said that Sheikh Russel's pain, suffering and emotional feelings were written by his (Russel's) elder sister Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina in her book "Amader Choto Russel Sona".

"We want to immortalize Sheikh Russel by fulfilling the dreams of billions of children and teenagers in Bangladesh," he said, adding that the Prime Minister inaugurated 5000 Sheikh Russel Digital Computer Lab today and set up Sheikh Russel School of Future.

The ICT state minister also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the government is working to build a non-communal, progressive and safe Bangladesh for the next generation, which was a dream of Bangabandhu.

National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor Md Mashiur Rahman presented the keynote in the seminar while COO of Shuchona Foundation Dr Saqui Khandoker and Director of the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Centre for Gender and Development Studies (BCGDS) Prof Dr Tania Haque joined the seminar as discussants.

Senior journalist and presenter Mithila Farzana moderated the seminar.
A theme song created on the occasion of Sheikh Russel Day and other documentaries were screened at the seminar.

Earlier in the morning, State Minister for the ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak paid homage to Sheikh Russel by placing a wreath at the portrait of Sheikh Russel in front of the ICT Tower in the city's Agargaon area.
 
Later, the ICT Division brought out a joyous procession on the occasion of Sheikh Russel Day 2022.
