Fugitive convict in Biswajit murder case held in city

DHAKA, Oct 17, 2022 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive convict, who was sentenced to life-term jail in Biswajit Das murder case 10 years back.

The arrested was identified as Mosharraf Hossain alias Abdullah, 34, of Bhairab upazila in Kishoreganj.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-2 conducted a drive in the city's Gulshan area on Sunday evening and arrested Mosharraf, said Fazlul Haque, RAB-2 Assistant Director (media) and Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police, today.

Biswajit, a tailor-shop worker, was chopped to death in broad-daylight near Bahadur Shah Park in Old Dhaka on December 9, 2012, during the blockade program called by BNP-led alliance.

On December 18, 2013, a Speedy Trial Tribunal awarded death penalty to eight people and 13 others to life- term imprisonment for killing Biswajit Das.

On August 6, 2017, the High Court upheld the death sentences of two-- Rafiqul Islam Shakil and Rajon Talukder, commuted death sentences of four to life imprisonment and acquitted four from the charges.

Mosharraf had been on the run since his conviction in Biswajit Das murder case in 2012.
