Technology can improve public health in Bangladesh: Experts

   RAJSHAHI, Oct 16, 2022 (BSS)-Wide-ranging use of appropriate technologies can improve public health because it plays a vital role towards reducing mortality and morbidity through detecting genuine causes of the disease.

   Basically, technology is used for proper treatment of any disease after detecting its real causes through tests and other thorough examinations.

   Academics and experts came up with the observation while addressing a symposium titled "Bringing technology and public health under one umbrella in Bangladesh: breaking barriers" held at Rajshahi University (RU) today.

   The Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology hosted the symposium at its seminar hall discussing and devising ways and means on how to reduce the rate of mortality and morbidity caused by various infectious and non-infectious diseases.

   Vice-chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar and Pro-vice-chancellor Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam addressed the event as chief and special guests respectively with Chairman of the department Prof Tanzima Yeasmin in the chair.

   Director of Bangladesh Child Health Research Foundation Dr Sezuty Saha, Senior Researcher Arif Muhammad Tonmoy and Microbiologist Nafisa Tabassum addressed the symposium as resource persons disseminating their expertise on the issue.

   Prof Golam Sabbir said technology and public health have become correlated as many of the diseases are being detected through using modern technologies in the present era. Many of the patients are now getting relief from maltreatment and exploitation by quacks as a result of innovation and promotion of modern technologies. He opined that the rate of maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity has been reduced side by side with increasing the lifespan of the public in general due to modern technologies.

  Prof Sabbir opined that there is no way but to promote and use appropriate technologies for substantial and sustainable improvement of public health, particularly child health. Dr Sezuty Saha told the meeting that they are working with child health and putting in their level best efforts to detect their different diseases, including typhoid and pneumonia, and giving effective solutions technology uses.
