DHAKA, Oct 15, 2022 (BSS) - The Dhaka University (DU) authorities today observed the Mourning Day remembering the Jagannath Hall tragedy in a befitting manner.

To mark the day, the university authorities organised various programmes and hoisted black flags atop all student dormitories and kept the university flag at half-mast.

Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman placed a floral wreath at the memorial inside Jagannath Hall and later attended a discussion held on dormitory premises. 

The day is observed every year to pay homage to the memory of the students, employees and guests who were killed in a tragic incident at Jagannath Hall on the night of October 15 in 1985.

On that day, the roof of the dilapidated building of Jagannath Hall TV room had collapsed leaving 40 students, guests and employees of the university dead and hundreds others injured.

Special prayers were also offered at Jagannath Hall Upasanalay and university mosques.
