DHAKA, Oct 4, 2022 (BSS) - The High Court today ordered the concerned authority to allocate an electoral symbol to Jamil Hossain Milon, a candidate vying for the post of general member in Natore Zila Parishad elections.
At the same time, the court also stayed the decision of the District Returning Officer and Appellate Authority, over canceling Jamil's nomination.
A High Court Division Bench comprising Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice Md Bashir Ullah delivered the order .
According to the case filed on September 18, the District Returning Officer canceled Jamil Hossain Milon's nomination, as he was listed as a contractor in the District Council. On September 21, the Election Appellate Authority upheld the decision to cancel the nomination papers.
On September 26, Awami League nominated chairman candidate Sazidur Rahman Khan received 'the spectacles' as symbol. On the other hand, Jatiya Party's (GM Quader) Dr Nurunnabi Mridha got the 'horse' symbol.
Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed allocated the symbols in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner.
Jamil filed a writ against the decision in the High Court yesterday.
The district election officer said a total of 44 candidates including two chairman candidates, 30 general and 12 reserved candidates, have been distributed symbols. The Zila Parishad elections will be held on October 17.
