
KHULNA, Sept 20, 2022 (BSS)-The Khulna City Corporation (RCC) has been implementing huge infrastructural development works aiming to make the city more clean, green, modern as well as habitable one.
The uplift works are being implemented with a budget of Taka 1,400-crore project titled 'Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development in Khulna City' in the city at present, KCC officials said here today.
“KCC is now implementing the construction works of 400 roads, drain widening, canal digging and modern garbage management system at a cost of Taka 393 crore in the city,” said the official.
Talking to BSS Superintendent Engineer of the KCC Moshiuzzaman said the construction and repairing works of 55 roads and 52 drains are now progressing and the remaining works will begin within a short time.
“At present, 65 to 70 percent construction works of the roads and 40 to 45 percent of drains has already been completed. The construction works has been delayed due to deadly corona virus (Covid-19) and recent heavy rainfall,” he said.
He, however, said construction works of many roads has not begun due to Khulna Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is being set up pipe lines by digging KCC roads.
Besides, construction of footpaths are being also implemented while digging of Mayur River, canals including Matiakhali and Khuderkhal will begin soon, he said adding that work order of these projects has already been given.
KCC Mayor and Khulna City Unit President of Awami League Talukder Abdul Khaleque told BSS that the construction works of roads, drainage in the city are being implemented in full swing.
“I don’t compromise about the quality works. So, I am inspecting the road and drainage works everyday in different area in the city. The construction works are likely to end by January 2023,” he said.
He also said they are going to construct two flyovers with the main thrust of overall development of the metropolis through freeing it from traffic congestion.
In addition to the flyovers, various development works are being implemented under the project scheduled to be completed by June, 2025.
Khaleque said construction works of 400 roads and drains at a cost of around Taka 323 crore are being implemented in the city. The digging works of Mayur River and some canals will begin very soon.
He said, Khulna city will get a new look upon the successful implementation of these mega projects.
Mayor Khaleque, however, said they have planned to conserve 31 water bodies under a project titled "Natural Water Bodies Conservation and Development in Khulna City" to retain its surface water resources for protecting the environment from further degradation.
"We have also adopted a project styled "Construction of City Center" involving around Taka 350 crore," Khaleque said.
The 15 storied city center will belong to modern cultural center, Cineplex, over 300 shops, food court and ICT facilities, he said, adding that the project is now lying to ECNEC for approval.
KCC will also implement waste water treatment plant, fecal sludge treatment and recycling plant, modern parks for the city’s entertainment and 22 intersections in the city will beautify with heritage of Khulna.
