DHAKA, Sept 19, 2022 (BSS) – Expatriate Bangladeshis
sent over US$ 1 billion remittances during the first fifteen
days of September in the fiscal 2021-22.
The country received around $1.009 billion remittances
during the first 15 days of the last month in the fiscal.
Bankers expected that the remittance inflow is likely to
cross $2.0 billion in September.
Bangladesh received remittances of $2.09 billion in July
and $2.03 billion in August, which became a blessing
amidst the forex crisis.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Executive Director and
Spokesperson Md Serajul Islam said that the central bank
has simplified various processes to attract more
remittances through banking channels.
“The government has taken measures, including cash
incentive, to streamline the legal channel for encouraging
non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to send money to the
country,” he added.
Bangladesh’s inward remittance flow will grow more as
manpower export hit a new high in the past fiscal on a
post-pandemic rebound of the overseas job market,
observed sector insiders.
The data of the Bureau of Manpower Employment and
Training (BMET) showed over 0.98 million workers had
gone abroad in the fiscal year FY22 while this figure was
0.27 million in FY 21.
