Nowfel for modern, job-oriented education to make skilled graduates

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 11, 2022 (BSS) - Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, MP, today opined that graduates should be made skilled by imparting career-oriented and modern education.

The students should learn more than one language to keep pace with the outer world, he said in his presidential speech as the representative of the Chancellor of the University at the fifth convocation of the International Islamic University of Chattogram (IIUC) held at its Kumira campus under Sitakunda Upazila of the district.

“Social order requires religious education and moral practice. But after the brutal killing of the Father of the Nation in ’75, a class of selfish people started politics based on Islam, which created anarchy in the country. Religion does not approve anarchy. Islam never supports anarchy in society,” he added.

Emeritus professor and former VC of BRAC University Professor Dr Ainun Nishat delivered the convocation speech while Dr Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi, MP, Chairman of the IIUC Board of Trustees and Biswajit Chand, member of University Grants Commission addressed the function as special guests.

The deputy minister for education advised the graduating students to be prepared to respond to the demands of time.

Nowfel said, “Islam does not mean Maududibad. We are moving away from the basic ideals and teachings of Islam.”

“Bangabandhu was later able to realize, as an active activist of the Pakistan movement, how society is harmed when religion is used in politics. For this reason he incorporated secularism into his state thought. Secularism does not mean irreligion,” he added.

IIUC Vice-Chancellor Prof. Anwarul Azim Arif, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mashrurul Mowla, Treasurer Professor Dr. Mohammad Humayun Kabir and Dean of the different Faculties, among others, were present in the function.

A total of 15,361 students received certificates in the 5th convocation of the university.

Among them, 9,459 are at undergraduate level and 5,902 at postgraduate level.

Chancellor Gold Medal was awarded to 36 students. Besides, Vice Chancellor Award was given to 137 students in the function.
