DHAKA, Sept 9, 2022 (BSS) - A week long environment olympiad titled "National
Environment Olympiad, Art, Essay, Poster and Presentation Competition 2022"
held at Dhaka University campus aimed at giving a reminder to people to be
more considerate and aware of the Earth's existing conditions.
DU Vice Chancellor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman today handed over the crest and
certificates among the winners of five different events of the Olympiad at
the closing ceremony today at university's Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate
Bhaban, with Chairperson of Geography and Environment Professor Nasreen Rafiq
in the chair.
Around 400 hundred students from 30 different schools, colleges and
universities took part in different segments of the week-long event,
organized by DU Geography and Environment department and Environment Club
marking the "World Environment Day, 2022".
With the slogan "Only One Earth: Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature",
the event included an Art Competition (for Class- Kg to V), Essay Competition
(for Class-VI to XII), Olympiad (for IX to XII), and Poster and Presentation
Competition (for University Students).
Thus, each age group got the chance to showcase how they see the future of
our world and what a sustainable future means to them. Furthermore, their
academic prowess and depth of knowledge was also evaluated.
DU Pro-VC (Academic) Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, dean of earth and environmental
sciences faculty Dr Md Zillur Rahman and convenor of the competition Dr
Nazmun Nahar, among others, were present on the occasion.
Moreover, as part of this event, the department also observed "Green Week,
2022" from September 2 to September 9 to create enthusiasm and awareness for
the environment amongst the young generation and tap into their latent
potential to re-imagine our world and create a sustainable future.
